MANUEL ALBALADEJO

Industrial economist with over 20 years of professional experience in the areas of industrial and trade policy, private sector development, and competitiveness. Currently, he serves as the Representative of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) for Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay. He promotes the Circular Economy through the implementation of technical cooperation projects such as BIOVALOR in Uruguay, Bioenergy in Argentina, and SME competitiveness in Paraguay; the development of Circular Economy Roadmaps in Uruguay and Chile; and the dissemination of best practices and policies through Circular Economy Forums (CEF). Since joining UNIDO in 2007, he has led the industrial policy group in designing and implementing industrial policies and competitiveness initiatives in developing countries.

Prior to his tenure at UNIDO, he was responsible for the World Bank’s trade facilitation program in Indonesia. During his academic career at the University of Oxford, he published extensively on topics related to industrial and trade competitiveness, production fragmentation, and productive sector development. He holds an MPhil in Development Studies from the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex.
