TIDE at the Global Energy Interconnection Conference in Beijing
On 12 September, Riad Meddeb, Senior Research Advisor at the TIDE Centre, delivered the opening keynote at the Global Energy Interconnection Conference in Beijing. In his address, Meddeb underscored that the energy transition must be understood not only in terms of megawatts produced or emissions reduced, but as a driver of human development. Clean energy, he argued, creates opportunities for job creation, value addition, and livelihood resilience, placing people at the centre of the global shift to sustainable power.
Following his keynote, Meddeb joined TIDE Director Amir Lebdioui on a panel titled “Powering Inclusive Growth from Potential to Prosperity: Opportunities and Trade-offs in Green Hydrogen”, exploring how Asia-Pacific can ensure that green hydrogen drives inclusive development, not just exports, and highlighting key priorities for policy, governance, and regional cooperation.
