Forum on Industrial Policy & Finance in the Global South

The Forum on Industrial Policy and Finance, held in Montevideo under the Uruguay Sur Initiative, brought together policymakers, researchers, and civil society actors to rethink how industrial policy can support green and inclusive development across the Global South. TIDE researchers contributed perspectives on governance models and financing strategies that can align industrial transformation with climate objectives.

Discussions emphasised pragmatic approaches to regional coordination, the role of development finance in de-risking long-term investments, and the importance of preserving productive capacity while decarbonising. By fostering dialogue across regions and disciplines, the forum advanced collective thinking on how industrial policy can remain a powerful tool for development in an era of technological and environmental change.
