Science and Innovation for the Productive Development of Latin America and the Caribbean: Launch of CAF-Oxford Report

In partnership with CAF, TIDE released a report examining how biodiversity can become a driver of innovation and productive development in Latin America and the Caribbean. The report challenges extractivist approaches to the bioeconomy and argues that development outcomes depend on the type of finance, R&D investment, and institutional frameworks that shape how biodiversity is used.
The study highlights nature-inspired innovation as a scalable pathway for development, calling for stronger scientific capacity, clearer benefit-sharing standards, and patient capital from development banks. By linking biodiversity with science, technology, and innovation policy, the report offers a vision for building resilient and inclusive productive systems rooted in the region’s unique natural assets.
