Overview
The Nature’s Intelligence Studio is a flagship initiative of Oxford’s Technology and Industrialisation for Development (TIDE) Centre, created to accelerate nature-inspired innovation for sustainable development. Drawing on the biological intelligence of biodiversity-rich regions such as the Amazon, the Studio brings together researchers, innovators, policymakers, and local communities to transform nature’s principles into practical, scalable technologies that address global sustainability challenges.
The Studio combines artificial intelligence, scientific research, innovation, and international collaboration to unlock biodiversity as a source of technological and industrial development. Through the Atlas of Nature’s Solutions, developed in partnership with Asteria, the Studio uses AI to identify and map nature-inspired solutions to energy challenges, making biological knowledge more accessible to researchers, entrepreneurs, and policymakers.
Beyond knowledge generation, the Studio also translates ideas into action. Together with the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), the Studio has organised the world’s first ideathon dedicated to biomimicry and nature-inspired innovation for sustainable development in Latin America. Finally, in partnership with INPA (Brazil’s National Institute of Amazonian Research), the Studio is also developing a legal and benefit-sharing framework to help ensure that innovation inspired by biodiversity is pursued ethically, equitably, and in ways that generate lasting value for both nature and society.
